I hate wrestling…. RAW sucked last night… why doesn’t TNA have better and/or longer matches? Why is Cena still headling? A few topic headlines and thoughts I have come across many a time from the various Forums I visit. But finding such topics on websites where supposed “fans” of wrestling, that play games based upon wrestling, have come together is both ironic and moronic to say the least. But I have “no” intention of saying the least, instead I intend to say a lot about this

Why do peeps on online e-wrestling sites always seem to voice these opinions? Well, at first the answer may appear to be one thing, the obvious, in that they really do hate wrestling and are letting you know it. But I’m not so convinced. Having a good memory, and being an ex-teenager this all struck a familiar chord with me. Here is my take on the subject.

Most e-feeders are or have at least recently been teenagers. What is the one thing that teenagers like to do? I’ll tell you. It’s rebel. Teenagers like to rebel. Why? Well because when one is a teen rebelling against things, ideas and standardized society it’s a way to establishing a unique identity for themselves. Teenagers are told what to do, when to do it and how to do it right. Nothing seems to be of their own devices or creations and they are told to act a certain way in order to act like everyone else in society. Instead of going along with the crowd, rebellious teens like to listen to metal music, dress all Goth-like, gangsta-like and shun school events (like the football games or school dances). They are trying to show everyone that they have different tastes, and opinions, and therefore are something that stands apart from the sameness of the crowd. People that rebel have a lower feeling of themselves and are trying to find a way to remedy that situation by standing out in a crowd. You’ve heard the old Hollywood saying concerning popularity… even bad press is good press. Well, they got it right, right there. Even if people are ragging on you because of your rebellious clothes and attitude, they do so because they have noticed you and are interacting with you. Which, is the core reason you rebelled in the first place.

Now, also consider the people on e-fedding websites now. Here you have another set of people, most with similar traits and styles. How do you stand out in this crowd? Well, one way is by sheer personality alone. But if you had such a magnetic personality, why would you spend so much time glued to a computer while the world floats by outside your house? No, the best way to stand out, is to once again churn up those rebellious attitudes and go against the flow.

People that complain about today’s pro-wrestling always seem to have an unrealistic view and hope of it. They wish things were a certain way that rationally, will never materialize. But when they do, it still doesn’t convert them as they simply find another reason to rag on pro-wrestling all because the WWE sucks!!! To these rebels nothing is going to satisfy them because deep down they do not want to be satisfied, they want to be rebellious. They want to stand out in the crowd as the wolf of sanity in what they consider a crowd of brainwashed sheep.

Now, what does this have to do with e-wrestlers posting that they hate wrestling? Simple, just connect the lines here. You have to like wrestling on more than a passing level in order to be a role-player these days. If you don’t like the way things are being done in the WWE or TNA today, that’s one thing because most people that hate something just ignore it. But in order to post comments and complain about the state of pro-wrestling today means you must have some clue as to what’s going on. That means you are watching the shows, clicking on websites and/or ordering the ppv’s.

Even if you moan and groan, getting pissed off at, or hanging your head in supposed shame as you watch it still means one thing… YOU ARE WATCHING!!!! And guess what? That means you are a fan! Like it or not. I actually do hate Harry Potter and all the movies and books based upon the character. But do you find me in renting the DVD’s or.going to Potter fan club sites? NO! If I was, the rational minds out there would consider me to be a fan of some sorts right? Right.

Every fan watches pro-wrestling for their own reasons. Some like just certain wrestlers. Some like just one. Others like the high flying actions while others get swept up in the backstage drama segments. And of course, there are those that watch, just to laugh and make fun of it and compare it to a time when they watched for enjoyment reasons. But that doesn’t change the fact they are watching for just as valid a reason as the rest of the screaming fans. The only difference is that they are rebellious fans instead of cheering fans.

So, in conclusion, I believe, those that state they “hate” the WWE, TNA or wrestling in general… and yet still play a game based upon wrestling, and visit places where wrestling–related posts are everywhere, are not really posting because of the WWE/TNA content. I believe they are posting based on the fact they have a need to stand out in the crowd. Some want you to recognize or acknowledge their debating skills or insight. Some want you to consider them as clever and smart. Some still just want you to notice that they are funny people and nice to be around. A lot of “haters” are quit vocal with plenty to say, thus making you notice them more than in just passing. True, true, some really do hate the WWE and TNA and have no ulterior or unconscious motives but from what I have noticed, those are few and far between.

Finding people that hate wrestling, playing a wrestling-based game, going to wrestling-related sites, where wrestling-related topics are discussed should make no sense whatsoever. And yet, it happens. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing… just another thing to consider when you read the next “TNA IMPACT sucked last night” post.

So, until my next consideration…

Toodles!
