Dark souled characters... you know the type. The dark, foreboding loner who is protrayed as evil incarnate, come to earth to wreck havok and wipe away all that is good and pure. Players who have chosen this character type give them sinsiter names, and lace the roleplays with demonic material and references. They are the ultra-end of the "Heel" spectrum. In theory, a natural choice for those that want to explore a deep and heavy subject. However, in my opinion, 99% of players out in the e-Fed world, are not using this great character type properly. Allow me to explain.

First off, you must realize that in the E-Fed world, things are a bit different than in the real world of "fake" wrestling. You can get away with much more in E-Fedding, than in the TV censored driven, 'real" world. Swearing is common, morals are rare, racism and sexism is hinted at or even played out. So in this more open venue, the dark-souled character has a more free reign of opportunities. Subjects off limits in "real" wrestling is now fair game in the E-fed world. But most players already know that. They know they can do more in E-fedding... that's why they play the game.

However, it's the very freedom that E-fedding offers, that has hindered the dark souled character. Inexperienced roleplayers and character builders have floaded the game with hundreds, if not thoudands of Gothic, demonic, tortured, and soul-less wrestlers. These characters are the ultimate in evil, some even being written as current or past multiple killers with sadistic homicidal tendencies. With so many of these lesser dark types out there, the more skilled roleplayer now has to step up their skill and story building abilities to over come the new wave of evil out there. For a dark, sadistic wrestler to be considered the top dog amongst his/her peers, players must now up the ante and have even more diabolical traits or events in their roleplays or bios. Evil characters are unique, in that in order to remain in good standing with their character traits, they must be the most evil of all in the Federation. Wrestlers who are dark and sadistic and "NOT" a main eventer, look like lackeys and followers, rather than self-guided pillars of strength.

You see, this problem only exists in the darker, evil characters. Ordinary tough guys, bad attitude bad asses and macho egomaniacs don't have to compete with one another They are successful because of their individuality. You can still be an egomaniac if you lose, because you can roleplay an excuse and blame everyone else... you can still be a bad ass if you lose as well because they have that "don't care" sort of thing going. But dark souled characters need to be considered the top utmost evil thing around in order to maintain their aura. And that's a hard thing to do, when some newbie comes along and forces you to change your character just so you can remain on top.

Just how evil would a top wrestler look if a lesser roleplayer wrote up a character that walked the streets at night, slashing people with a knife for fun... who pumped himself up before matches by beating backstage hands into bloody pulps... who's eyes glowed red in the ring when you hit him and had a mysterious pagan pentagram on his back? In the world of E-fedding you need to be showing your opponent up by out doing what they can do. So if you can't be more evil than they are, it makes you look bad. Why? Because now your greatly protrayed, deeply described and heavily detailed dark character seems more baby face, when stacked against the likes of the "new" dark character. In order for your character to develop you have to be more evil than the lesser roleplayer, whether you like it or not.

And so, onward turns the wheel. The better roleplayers develop dark characters that can out-evil their lesser roster mates, thus resetting the standard. But then, somewhere along the way, another level of evil, with another set of traits comes along changing everything once again.Pretty soon, things start to get out of hand and rather rediculous. What was once a troubled wrestler who had voices in his head...is now a homicidal predator wanted in 10 States under 5 different names because of a 5 year killing spree he did in his teens. I mean come on now, I know it's pretend wrestling here folks, but even E-fedding has it's limits of believability. Can you honestly say you'd believe some promoter is going to hire some crazed lunatic to chomp on his employees, wreck havok with his paying customers, and break all the rules of any TV broadcast he/she has set up to bring revenue into his/her federation? Do you think any TV channel is actually going to show this sort of character? Come on now.

The dark souled character is a tortured one indeed. For lesser roleplayers, who do not know the meaning of the word restraint, have forced this character down the road of unbelievability. And in the world of wrestling, be it 'fake" or E-fed, being believed can make or break a character.
