Well, by now you've come to hear that pro wrestler Chris Benoit, has been reported to have killed his wife, child, and then himself. The most common statement everyone who knew was... "I can't believe he would do such a thing! It wasn't like him." Well, all the evidence seems to indicate otherwise. But I'm not here to discuss evidence and therories on why he did what he did... everyone seems to be doing that. What I plan to talk about is that there are still say they admire him as a wrestler.... calling him the best technical wrestler that ever was... and I find that totally reprehensible.
In my opinion... nothing Benoit ever did in the ring should matter anymore. Anything he ever did, should now be wiped off the face of the face of the earth in terms of reference, much like what he did with his family. Admiring what a guy did in his life "BEFORE" he murdered his family is just not right. Let me put it into perpestive for you.
How many people know that serial killer John Wayne Gacy ran a successful contracting company? Or that he raised funds for charity and entertained children at local hospitals? Apparently he was well thought of as a family man who was a pillar in the comminuty. Despite his so-called honarable life before his killing spree started, a simple Google(tm) of the name John Wayne Gacy brings up page after page about a sick, twisted, killer that murdered about 30 people, buring many under his floor boards of his home. Do you think anyone cares about the quality of his contracting works now? Do you think people actually look at some of the rooms he rebuilt and say "I'm glad Mr.Gacy remodelled my games room. He was a highly skilled craftsman!"? Do you think any of the children that saw him entertaining them, go around thinking..."Wow, that Gacy sure knew how to make me smile!" I really doubt anyone even thinks about the man other than his being a cold blooded murderer.
Everything John Wayne Gacy did before in his life, was wiped out and cancelled by the evil he did before going to prison and being executed. In short...he's a murderer, plain and simple, and nothing he did in his life can change that. Anyone who goes around claiming John Wayne Gacy should be praised for "ANYTHING" he did, will get a lot of raised eyebrows that's for sure. Same goes for Chris Benoit. You should not admire a man for just the good he has done... when he has commited such horrid acts as killing his own wife and child.
A man's life is the sum of his acts... not a recounting of selected parts.
Chris Benoit has killed a woman and a child. He is on the same level as any other multiple murderer, such as Gacy. Just because he was on TV doesn't mean he should be viewed any different than the rest of the murderers. Gacy used to dress up as a clown and entertain children. To admire one, for his past deeds, is no different than admiring the other. So to admire Chris Benoit's wrestling career, is the same as admiring John Wayne Gacy's comedic skills.
Chris Benoit "WAS" a wrestler of high skill who was admired by thousands of fans, worldwide. But when news of his murders came to light, all that changed. Most people no longer see about him as a wrestler worth admiring. Most people now see him for his final deeds...that as a murderer. Nothing he did in his life before that matters anymore. To admire his wrestling career is to pay homage to him. And in a civil society, no murderer should ever get any sort of homage.... at any time....for anything!
Think about it. The same firey, unstoppable, never-say-die, get-the-job-done, explosive, animal fury that Benoit used in the ring.... was the same firey, unstoppable, never-say-die, get-the-job-done, explosive, animal fury that Benoit used to strangle a tied up woman and undersized child.
Is that something you can honestly say you admire?
